Mac Mic Strategic Land have submitted an outline planning application for up to 500 new homes, up to two hectares of mixed-use development, public open space and the first part of a relief road on land north of the A370 (Farleigh Road), Backwell. The application reference number is 26/P/1324/OU2.
The submission of the planning application follows a public consultation undertaken for these proposals in July 2025, including a public exhibition held at Backwell Parish Hall.

Since the public consultation last summer, North Somerset Council has confirmed that it is proposing to allocate the site for residential development as a part of the larger ‘Land east of Backwell’ allocation in the emerging North Somerset Local Plan 2041. The overall Land east of Backwell site (including the application site) is proposed for allocation under draft Policy LP5 – Housing, Employment and Mixed Use Allocations. It is also identified as a proposed allocation on the Policies Map:
